Dress Code
The dress code for the traditional wedding celebration is formal chic.
Men can opt for a suit with or without a tie and women shall wear evening dresses or chic suits.
Like at most congolese traditional weddings, we have chosen a uniform in wax for our wedding. You can tailor your outfit with wax according to this dress code. But you are also free to not wear the wax.
Uniform
In Congolese culture wearing a uniform cloth during a traditional wedding is a beautiful symbol of unity, respect, and collective celebration. This uniform is often made from a special fabric called wax.
What is a wax?
A wax is a colorful, patterned fabric that is deeply woven into Congolese identity and everyday life. It is not just clothing material but more so a culture: it carries meaning, it tells stories, and it reflects the pride of the congolese culture. For special events like weddings, a wax is chosen carefully for its beauty, patterns, and symbolism.
The uniform for Jenny & Tafadzwa’s traditional wedding celebration:
Floral Centerpiece: The large, blooming flowers at the center symbolize growth, beauty, and the blossoming of new beginnings. Flowers in African textiles often signify joy, celebration, and prosperity.
Interwoven Leaves: The abundance of blue and teal leaves suggests interconnectedness, family unity, and the weaving together of two lineages.
Meaning of colors:
Blue traditionally represents peace, trust, and loyalty
Yellow symbolizes happiness, warmth, and prosperity
Teal/Greenish tones reflect harmony, fertility, and growth
Kindly contact Biluge Mushegera under +49 173 6105250 if you would like to order a wax.
